Gaye thank you for taking the time to share your responses to Arlene’s guest post. I’m glad to hear it’s inspiring you as you move into landscape and the possibilities to move towards abstraction. Let us know how it goes!
I love your comment that “pure abstraction is hard to do.” It IS! And it kils me whenjoe public says “my child could do that.” Um not really….

I realise that it is your colour choices in their simple and balanced delivery…absolutely beautiful. My favourites are Terra and Central Park, NY -Wed. To be honest I’m not over the top about pure abstraction, find it difficult to do, but still appreciate it when it’s done well (in my mind!) I paint portraits mostly, in oil, watercolour and pastel according to whatever appeals to me on the day; but…I am slowly moving into landscapes and your article has certainly lifted my spirits and I’m beginning to see the greater possibilities of making them semi-abstract, which I hope will make them more exciting! Thank you, thank you…great article, Arlene and idea, Gail!

Ann that is WONDERFUL to hear! And might I suggest you use the weakness of not being able to draw a straight line and make that a strength? I am glad Arlene’s work has freed you to possibly think this way!

I love her process. I have a tremor and cannot draw a straight line. I have been frustrating myself focusing on trying to draw and do a landscape. Arlene is very freeing for me. I will re-read what she has written and know that I will apply lots of her thinking and suggestions. Thank you Gail for introducing her to me.

It was eye-opening to hear about her process because she has evolved from one strength to another. I plan to become a collector, her paintings are so evocative they will be a joy to live with.

I know Karin. I was so happy when Arlene agreed to guest blog and was delighted when I read her article – more than I wished for! As you say, full of honesty. How splendid that you feel so strongly about it that you will print and keep it to refer to from time to time. Thanks for sharing the paintings you liked best.
All the best to you too 🙂
